The software window doesn’t take up the entire surface of your screen but leaves some space on the right: you can use two different windows side by side, or to resize them to icon size – like they were software. Clicking on a bubble, we’ll open the website. Opera Neon ships a transparent overlay: once we run the browser we’ll see our favorites, like bubbles that float onscreen. Opera Neon, which can be used either on Windows or Macs, it’s an experimental browser: it runs the Opera core code, but with a renovated interface that reminds a futuristic operating system. It just so happens the one page I needed today has not yet been converted.Opera tries to shake up browser industry with Opera Neon, a concept software already available to users for a first try out. I have spoken with members of the team and the company is aggressively rolling out HTML5 on pages within their product. *ExtraHop is in no way bashed for the lack of HTML5 support. In conclusion, Opera Neon is a fancy smancy browser in it's infancy and will eventually be a force to be reckoned with if some extra features are added to it.Īll in all I give it an 8 out of 10 rating. I clicked on the ExtraHop instance and bam! There was my device groups that would not work earlier. I relaunched and found my previous visited pages to be on the left side in bubble form. I copied over the files, closed the browser and then relaunched. I noted the file location and mirrored the same for Neon but substituted the Google Chrome areas for Opera Neon and so forth. I was checking inside my Chrome browser when I noticed the pepperflash.dll file used for the Flash Player to work in Chrome. I then started researching Flash Player integration in Chrome and found some info and decided to give it a try on Neon. I knew that in Chrome there are certain areas you could visit to see plugins and the about section of the browser so I tried this in Neon and got similar results. I quickly turned to my investigative tactics. Due to the newness of this browser there was a serious lack of information regarding the information I was seeking. I type what I wanted in the search bar and hit enter. Sitting in astonishment I began to wonder if maybe this is by default and there must be a hidden button I have to click or a check box needing the call to action. What happens next is referred to as "quick Charles". "Adobe Flash Player 9 or greater is needed to display this page." (not verbatim) I then cursed under my breath at the inabilities of the browser for not supporting Flash and the platform for not supporting HTML5. I then finally got a message that hurt me to my core. I tried a couple of items to resolve the issue, F5, link hopping, etc. I instantly noticed the page was not launching. So, there I was clicking my way through the pages of my instance of ExtraHop and soon was on my desired page. Keep in mind that all of this was being performed in Neon. I then noticed I had to update a custom device group that was being used for a monitoring dashboard so I proceeded through the steps to complete this. Alright! My internal giddies started to whirl. Typed in the address and there I was, at the login prompt. This platform runs smooth in Chrome so I figured it would do the same in Neon. Not are they just bubbles but they're modern appeal is to be liked.Īs I started to click my way around I decided to give it a spin on a platform I use everyday for my employer. What now occupies the browser launch are these bubbles. No more is there an address bar immediately upon launch. Once launched, the style and sleek begins to shine. Install was quick and painless, as expected with any consumer based software these days, and launching was exceptionally fast. Getting tired of the same ole feel & look I decided to download and install this new addition to the scene and give it a spin. Starting in 1994 Opera began as a project and later became one of the top 5 web browsers to be used worldwide. Recently the web browser world has erupted with the news of a new platform dubbed Neon from Opera.
